The welfare of livestock could be improved thanks to a new research project that will use novel artificial intelligence methods combined with behavioural analytics to provide rapid and reliable insights to animal health for farmers across the UK. The research and commercial feasibility program, co-funded by Innovate UK, the UK's innovation agency, will be led by the Quant Foundry (QF) in collaboration with the University of Bristol Vet School and Agri-EPI Centre.

AHDB’s Real Welfare scheme is unique in the type of data it collects and the degree to which it represents practices across the industry. Last year’s data shows that the vast majority of pig farms continue to have good levels of welfare and the sector as a whole shows continuous improvements are being made.

The European Commission has received the "End the Cage Age" citizens' initiative, moving it closer to implementation.

Věra Jourová, Vice-President for Values and Transparency, and Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, are meeting the organisers of the European Citizens' Initiative "End the Cage Age", after they collected and submitted to the Commission close to 1.4 million signatures.

New report from The Human League UK shows that meal kit companies, who have seen unprecedented success during the COVID-19 crisis, are taking much-needed action on chicken welfare

A new report,Chicken Welfare in the Meal Kit Sector, shows that the majority of the top UK meal kit companies have now committed to or exceed the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC).

The BCC is an initiative led by animal protection groups aimed at reducing the widespread suffering of chickens. Key player HelloFresh has been signed up to the BCC since May 2020, while Gousto committed last week. KBK, Nosh Detox, and Love Yourself also committed this year.

We are pleased to announce that, after a gruelling legal battle, the Scottish Government has finally stopped live calf exports. Having spent six months defending the inhumane export of unweaned calves to Europe, they have conceded that this trade was being conducted in breach of the legislation on the protection of animals during transport.
